Projects.co.id is a prominent Indonesian freelancing platform connecting businesses with skilled professionals across various domains. While offering a wide array of projects and opportunities, the platform's user experience, particularly for freelancers, presented challenges that hindered engagement and onboarding.
Problem Background
Extensive research, encompassing user interviews and a thorough analysis of the existing website, revealed several key pain points hindering the freelancer experience on Projects.co.id:
Information Overload: The platform presented an overwhelming amount of information, making it difficult for new users to navigate and find relevant projects.
Lack of Clear Hierarchy: The absence of a well-defined visual hierarchy made it challenging to prioritize information and understand the platform's structure.
Outdated Design: The website's visual style felt dated and uninspiring, failing to resonate with modern design trends and user expectations.
Complex User Flow: The process of finding, bidding on, and managing projects was convoluted, leading to frustration and potential drop-offs.
Objective
The primary objective of this project was to revamp the UI and user flow to enhance the overall freelancer experience on Projects.co.id. Specific goals included:
Improved Onboarding: Streamlining the new user experience to facilitate easier understanding of the platform and its features.
Enhanced Usability: Creating a clear and intuitive interface that simplifies navigation and empowers users to find projects, manage their profiles, and communicate effectively.
Modernized Aesthetics: Updating the visual design to align with current trends and create a more engaging and professional look and feel.
Increased Engagement: Boosting overall user satisfaction and interaction with the platform.

Research method:
User Interview and Usability Testing (before the website refined)
Secondary research by searching for online reference
Target User:
New user that experienced freelancing at another platform within 18 and 30 years old.
Interview Questions:
Have you used other websites as platforms to find projects/jobs? (If yes, which ones? How often? Why do you use them?)
What are your impressions of the Projects.co.id website? (Prompt for feedback on the homepage if not mentioned.)
Did you encounter any difficulties completing the tasks?
Usability Tasks:
Registration: As a freelancer with web development skills, register an account on Projects.co.id (provide a temporary email for the user to use).
Profile Completion: Complete your profile.
Category Search & Bookmark: Find and bookmark projects matching your skills using the available categories.
Search Bar & Bookmark: Find a second project using the search bar and bookmark it.
Bidding: Locate your bookmarked projects and bid on both.
Bid Tracking: You're waiting for updates on your bids. Find the page that shows your bidded projects.
Findings: Through the research process, we uncovered key pain points and opportunities that shaped the design direction. These insights, detailed below, provided a deep understanding of user needs and expectations.
